Outside uses your location to show current weather and your preferences to suggest clothing. On iOS, enabling weather notifications also sends the information below to our notification service so it can prepare alerts while the app is closed. No account is required.

Weather and location

You can allow location access or select a place manually. Coordinates are sent to the configured weather provider to request conditions and to the device's geocoding service to look up a place name. Place searches may use OpenStreetMap's Nominatim service as a fallback. Location can be precise or approximate, depending on your device settings. Outside does not continuously track your location in the background.

Notification data

When you enable notifications and allow them in iOS, Outside sends these details to its Cloudflare-hosted service:

• Your notification location: coordinates and place name.
• Notification times, time zone, temperature units, comfort ranges, and the advice messages you configure.
• A random installation identifier, an Apple push notification token, the app version, and the time of your last sync.
• Delivery attempt dates, status, and error categories used to diagnose failures.

These records are linked to your app installation. They are not anonymous, even though we do not ask for your name or create a user account. They are used for app functionality, not advertising or cross-app tracking.

Scheduled alerts use the last location and preferences successfully synced by the app. Opening Outside after travel updates that information. Apple receives the push token and notification content to deliver the alert, which may appear on your lock screen according to your iOS settings.

Storage and retention

• Your saved places and preferences are stored on your device. Installation credentials are stored in iOS Keychain.
• The notification service keeps the current synced settings while your installation is active. An hourly cleanup removes installations that have not synced for 90 days.
• Delivery records older than 30 days are removed by the hourly cleanup. Cleanup is processed in batches, so deletion may take longer during a backlog or service outage.
• Infrastructure backups may retain deleted records temporarily under the hosting provider's backup retention policy.

Your controls

• Use a manually selected place if you do not want to grant device location access.
• Turn notifications off in Outside while online. After the change successfully syncs, the server clears the push token, location, schedules, and comfort ranges. Settings shows whether the sync succeeded.
• Turning notifications off in iOS stops display on that device. Reopen Outside so it can sync the permission change to the server.
• Uninstalling the app does not immediately delete server records or necessarily erase Keychain credentials. Inactive server records are removed by the retention process described above.

Service providers

Outside uses these services to fetch weather, host its notification service, and deliver alerts. They may process network and diagnostic information under their own policies:

• OpenStreetMap Foundation, for fallback place searches
• Cloudflare
• Apple

Outside does not include advertising or an advertising analytics SDK, and does not sell your information.
